A wife revealed she canceled Christmas after her husband bought an expensive gift for his playmate instead of her.
The anonymous 28-year-old woman took to Reddit to explain the situation.
In a thread titled ‘Am I the idiot?‘ he asked people on the web for advice while revealing that his spouse had decided to buy an expensive gift for his friend who he plays video games with.
She noted that her partner had spent a whopping $150 on the friend, but only bought her a $20 candle.
The woman explained that her spouse got her for her family’s Secret Santa, who had a budget of $100, but instead spent her funds on her online friend.
Upon learning that her spouse had not thought about her gift, she became furious and decided to cancel the family Christmas dinner.
Now, her loved ones criticize her for overreacting and call her “mean.”
She questioned whether she was wrong in a post titled: ‘Am I the idiot for canceling Christmas dinner because my husband’s “Secret Santa” gift was for his playmate and not me?’

“I’m currently hiding in our bedroom with a bottle of wine, while my husband plays video games in the living room, probably telling his online friends how I ‘ruined Christmas,'” she wrote.
‘My phone is full of texts from her mother, calling me selfish, and I’m debating whether I should block her until New Years. Let me explain what led to this holiday meltdown.
‘To put it in context, I (28F) have been married to my husband (30M) for three years and every year we host a Christmas dinner for his family.
‘This year, I went all out: decorating the house, planning an amazing menu, and even making some of the table decorations by hand.
‘Meanwhile, my husband has been “too busy” with work (read: his online gaming) to help with anything.
‘A few weeks ago, we decided to do a Secret Santa gift exchange with his family, including a budget of $100.
‘I was assigned to my husband, which I thought was nice because he could easily get me something thoughtful without needing anyone else to clue him in.
“I, on the other hand, got his dad and spent weeks searching for the perfect vintage vinyl record he was looking for.”

Her excitement soon turned to anger after she discovered that her spouse was not spending as much money on her as he did on his friend.
She said: ‘Fast forward to today. After spending all morning in the kitchen preparing Christmas dinner, I decided to take a look at the presents under the tree.
‘That’s when I noticed a box with my husband’s handwriting addressed to someone called “The Warlord.”
‘Confused, I opened it (yes, I spied, sue me) and inside was a $150 custom-made gaming headset.
‘To put it in context, my husband has a gaming partner he plays with almost every night called “The Warlord.”
‘At first, I thought maybe he had given his friend an extra gift. But then it hit me: he spent more on a gift for his playmate than on me, his wife.
“I looked at the gift he gave me and it was a $20 candle – yes, a candle – with the generic message: ‘Merry Christmas! With love, (husband’s name).”
‘I’m not even a candle person. I confronted him immediately. He laughed and said, “It’s just Secret Santa, no big deal. Plus, The Warlord and I have been playing together for years. “You wouldn’t understand.”
