Darts star Sandro Eric Sosing has received a diagnosis after withdrawing from his World Championship match with chest pains.

The Filipino was forced to withdraw from his first round match against Ian White at Ally Pally and was rushed to hospital.

Now, he has been officially diagnosed with Guillain-BarrĂ© syndrome (GBS), a rare neurological disorder that occurs when the body’s immune system attacks the peripheral nervous system.

After experiencing numbness and muscle pain on Friday, Sosing was treated by medical staff at the stadium and then transferred to a hospital, where he is still receiving treatment.

In a statement, PDC Darts said: “The Professional Darts Corporation can provide an update on the health of Sandro Eric Sosing, who withdrew ahead of his first round match with Ian White at the World Darts Championship on Friday 20 December.

‘Sosing had reported numbness and muscle aches while preparing for the match, and after assessment by on-site medical staff he was transferred to a local hospital for further tests.

“He remains under medical care in hospital but hopes to be able to travel home soon.

“Sandro would like to thank everyone who has asked about his well-being for their good wishes and kind messages.”

Sosing won his first Asian Tour title in March and is ranked 225th in the world.

The 41-year-old qualified for darts’ premier tournament after placing second at the PDC Asian Championships.

His retirement in the first round meant the clash between eighth seed Stephen Bunting and Kai Gotthardt went ahead. The Englishman ended up coming back from a one-set deficit to dispatch the German 3-1.
