Rasmus Hojlund has explained that the Manchester United squad is still adapting to Ruben Amorim’s new tactics as the team put in another disappointing performance in the home defeat to Nottingham Forest.

The Portuguese manager replaced the embattled Erik ten Hag in October after a defeat to West Ham proved too much, leaving the Red Devils languishing in 14th place.

After spending three games at his previous team, Sporting Lisbon, Amorim arrived in Manchester last month and quickly got to work implementing his favored 3-4-3 system.

United were fortunate to hold out for a 1-1 draw at Ipswich in the new manager’s opening match before victories over Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League and Everton in the Premier League gave fans cause for optimism.

But a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal in midweek was followed by a miserable performance against Forest on Saturday which resulted in a 3-2 defeat, leaving United in 13th place.

Hojlund scored the Red Devils’ first goal at Old Trafford but admitted the players are still struggling to get used to Amorim’s ideas.

he said sky sports: ‘Annoying goals, of course, we have to do better, especially in corners, we have conceded too much now, but I am sure we will improve.

“I think it’s more about us being in a new position, new ideas, a new set-piece coach, but we need to understand his ideas.

“There is a lot to take in, but we have to face it, we are Manchester United and we have to do better.” “There are many games left but it is not an ideal situation, but we have to try to maintain a positive attitude.”

Nottingham Forest achieved a deserved 3-2 victory, their first win here since December 1994.

United fell behind after two minutes, conceding a goal from another corner, before Rasmus Hojlund brought them back on level terms.

But the game got out of hand in the early stages of the second half and in the blink of an eye, as it rained, United were trailing 3-1 after a big mistake from Andre Onana gave Morgan Gibbs-White a goal before Chris Wood. added a third.

Captain Bruno Fernandes produced an exquisite finish to finish off a shot after Amad Diallo found him with a perfect pullback, but it was not enough to turn the tide.

It means United remain slumped to 13th in the Premier League as Amorim have claimed just one win in their first four games in England’s top flight.

“You feel it, when you lose a game it is very difficult for everyone. I can understand that. I feel it in the stadium after the first goal.

‘We understand the context but we have to continue in the same way, doing the same things.

‘The same words that I have here with Everton, I have them today. Focus on the performance. “We need to improve in many aspects of the game and continue doing the same tomorrow in training.”
