- Sam Kerr has suffered another setback in his recovery
- He tore his ACL in January in training camp.
- He’s not even expected to train until later in the season.
Matildas star Sam Kerr has suffered another setback in his recovery from injury, with Chelsea boss Sonia Bompastor confirming the talented striker won’t even train for a few months yet.
Kerr suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during a Chelsea training camp in Morocco in January.
This injury required surgery and a rehabilitation period, which kept her out for the remainder of the 2024 season.
Consequently, Kerr missed important games for Chelsea, including the second half of the Women’s Super League season, and was unable to take part in the Matildas’ campaign at the Paris Olympics.
Recovery from an ACL injury typically takes 6 to 12 months, depending on the severity of the injury and the rehabilitation process. Athletes who undergo surgery typically return to sports within 9 to 12 months.
However, Chelsea boss Sonia Bompastor now says Kerr is not even training and will not do so until much later in the season.

Kerr also announced on Instagram in November that she and her partner Kristie Mewis are expecting a baby in 2025.
“I would say Sam we hope to have him back with us in February or March, not before that,” he said.
“She hasn’t started training yet, she hasn’t even been modified with the group, so she is still in her individual rehabilitation process and I think it will take her at least two or three more months to be fit enough to be with the team.” “. ‘
Kerr told the BBC in September that “little more than an ACL was going on.”
It comes after Kerr announced on Instagram in November that she and her partner Kristie Mewis are expecting a baby in 2025.
The couple posted a series of touching photos of themselves while holding a picture of Mewis’ scans.
The soccer duo (Mewis plays for West Ham and the USWNT) were all smiles as they celebrated the exciting news with their Instagram followers.
Kerr’s Matildas teammate and Manchester City star Mary Fowler was one of the first to comment on the post, writing: “Congratulations” and adding a “heart eyes” emoji.
Meanwhile, Kerr’s trial on charges of alleged aggravated racial harassment of a police officer will take place in February next year.

Kerr also reportedly vomited in the taxi and at that time he was arrested and questioned.
Her legal team has since argued that Kerr was subjected to an abuse of process after it took a year for her to be charged.
Kerr will not be required to attend the hearing in person next February.
If convicted, Kerr could face a maximum prison sentence of two years or be deported from the UK.
