Tensions flared at the end of the Nate Diaz vs. Jorge Masvidal press conference Thursday in Anaheim, California, after Diaz rejected another matchup with Masvidal.
Much like the April 19 press conference between the two former UFC titleholders, Diaz was in no mood to face his opponent. As the press conference began to wind down, Diaz became increasingly agitated by questions posed to him by emcee Brian Campbell.
“I’m done with all this press conference bullshit,” Diaz said. “I’m glad we’re here to promote these great fights that are happening, that’s great, but you know what? Other than that, I think my job here is done. I’m done doing all this shit. No more press conferences until my next fight. Fuck this ugly son of a bitch. I hate to disrespect you (Campbell), but I’m also sick of seeing you. I’m out. It’s good to see you all. Calm down. Shout out to Danny Jacobs and my boy Chris Avila. Love, kick ass. I’ll see you all next time.”
Diaz stood up from his seat and began to leave the stage as organizers attempted to corral him for a showdown with Masvidal.
“Face yourself, motherfucker,” Diaz said after offering a few quick poses alone.
Masvidal took offense and began following Diaz around the stage, who paused for a moment as they exchanged some heated words. The media and some fans began to surround the wrestlers as they argued, creating a tense scene.
Díaz eventually walked away, but tensions between the other members of the circle continued to rise. Soon enough, the pushing and punching began, with Masvidal at the center of it all.
Diaz and Masvidal are scheduled to compete in a boxing match on July 6 in a Fanmio pay-per-view main event at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. It will be the second time the pair meet in combat sports, following their first meeting for the inaugural BMF title fight at UFC 244 in November 2019.
