A furious local resident took to social media to attack a contractor who was caught cutting a strip of grass late at night.

The man, a resident of Sydney’s Northern Beaches, shared footage of a man using a lawnmower to cut a nature strip at the northern end of Mona Vale Road on Tuesday night.

—So it’s okay to mow the lawn on a Tuesday night at 10:10 p.m.? he captioned the Facebook post.

“Some of us have to get up at five in the morning.”

Noise from power tools and equipment is not permitted between 8pm and 7am Monday to Saturday, according to the Northern Beaches Council website.

A council spokesperson said the cut shown appears to be in a median strip managed by Transport for NSW (TfNSW).

“The City Council carries out all cuts between 7 am and 5 pm,” the spokesperson added.

“If residents experience noise problems in their neighbourhood, Council invites residents to make a complaint directly to Customer Services.”

Many social media users agreed that it was never acceptable to mow the lawn so late, especially on a weeknight.

“Excessive noise limitations have been put in place…please file a complaint with the city,” one woman wrote.

‘Totally illegal! You called the police, right? asked a second.

“That’s ridiculous,” one person posted.

“That’s a valid complaint,” another added.

Others were a little more lenient, suggesting that the man may have had a reason for mowing the grass so late.

“If you drive on the main roads at night, you’ll see them mowing the grass at night,” said one local.

“There are parts that are difficult for them to do during the day, so they have no choice.”

Another wrote: “If it’s a one-off, who cares?”
