Devin Haney’s father and trainer Bill Haney has called for Ryan Garcia to receive a lifetime ban from boxing after he tested positive for a banned substance.
Garcia defeated Haney in a thrilling fight last month, only to have it revealed shortly after fight night that he had failed drug tests.
The 25-year-old, who denies any wrongdoing, tested positive for ostarine in his A and B samples.
Testing took place the day before and the day of the fight in Brooklyn.
Haney has called for the result to be reversed – to a win by disqualification – and the New York State Athletic Commission insisted earlier this week that its investigation remains ongoing.

But following news of the B sample findings, Haney Sr. urged boxing authorities to ban Garcia for life.
“Clearly… there’s nothing you can do with this guy except get him out of the sport,” he said. TMZ.
‘It’s a terrible thing… it’s a terrible thing for sports in general. “It’s a terrible thing for boxing.”
Garcia has denied knowingly using performance-enhancing drugs.
He also claims to have sent a hair sample for analysis in a bid to clear his name.
“It’s a terrible thing for sports in general. It’s a terrible thing for boxing,” Bill Haney said.
But Haney Sr. said he’s not sure his son would agree to a rematch even if they could guarantee Garcia was clean.
‘You see me with my children, I don’t know what to tell them. The Haneys… we are fair. We believe in hard work and I feel weakened. Let him sign up to do this and now make fun of the sport,’ he stated. “It’s just terrible.”
Meanwhile, in a statement to ESPN, the NYSAC said: “The Commission strictly prohibits the use of performance-enhancing drugs and works vigorously to defend the integrity of the sport and maintain a level playing field.”
“When violations are detected, the Commission will take action.”
