Bumble founder Whitney Wolfe Herd has revealed what she believes is the future of modern dating and how AI can help and empower young people.
Herd, 34, gave an interview at the Bloomberg Tech Summit in San Francisco on May 9, where he talked about how Bumble focused on digital innovation while maintaining its ideologies.
He also noted that AI could help train future users on how to date and present themselves in the best light to potential partners.
Herd also presented a scenario during the interview in which singles could use AI dating concierges as surrogates while communicating with potential partners online.

Herd launched the company in 2014 after an acrimonious exit from rival app Tinder, owned by Match Group, which she had co-founded.
She is married to Michael Herd, a Texas oil and gas heir. They met on a ski trip in Aspen and share two children.
‘If you really want to date, there is a world where your dating concierge (AI) could date you with another dating concierge.
‘So, for example, in the near future you could talk to your AI dating concierge and share your insecurities.
“I just got out of a breakup, I have commitment issues” and could help you learn to think better about yourself.
‘Really. And then you won’t have to talk to 600 people. She’ll scan all of San Francisco and say, “These are the three people you don’t really know,” she told host Emily Chang.
Herd further said he wanted AI to help people “create healthier, more equitable relationships.”

A Bumble spokesperson later said NBC that the company can “see a future where AI can continue to foster” positive relationships between people.
“Bumble is a place to make safe, kind and authentic connections, helping people find each other online and then go offline,” the statement reads.
The spokesperson also confirmed that the company had already added new AI-based elements to the dating app.
Speaking about the app’s recent rebrand, Herd said: “We won’t be a dating app for a few years.”
‘Dating will be a component, but we will be a true platform for human connection. This is where you’ll meet whoever you want: a hiking buddy, a mahjong buddy, whatever you’re looking for.’
These revelations come six months after the founder stepped down as CEO.
Herd founded Bumble nearly a decade ago at the age of 24 and built it into a billion-dollar company, and she will now remain with the company as CEO.
The mother of two handed the job to experienced business and technology executive Lidiane Jones, sending her shares down more than 8 percent in early trading Monday.
Jones is the CEO of Slack, which is owned by Salesforce, and has held senior business roles at Microsoft, where she spent more than 12 years. She will take office on January 2.
Over the years, Wolfe Herd has been surrounded by powerful women in her circle, including Meghan Markle, who she was spotted with at a Katy Perry concert over the weekend, business giant Kris Jenner and Lauren Sanchez.

“Lidiane’s experience and track record in products and technology is exceptional,” said Wolfe Herd as the company looks to embrace artificial intelligence across all of its products.
Herd launched the company in 2014 after an acrimonious exit from rival app Tinder, owned by Match Group, which she had co-founded.
Bumble’s eponymous app stood out in the industry by allowing women to make the first move.
In recent years, Bumble, which counts Friends, Badoo, Fruitz (for Gen Z) and Official in its portfolio of dating services, has faced pressure to grow due to unrest in some markets such as Eastern Europe and competition from its biggest rival Match.
In 2020, her husband put their family’s three-home compound in Austin, Texas, on the market for $28.5 million.
Wolfe Herd has received praise after praise for his work within the dating app and technology space. She was named one of Business Insider’s Top 30 Women Under 30 in Tech in 2014.
And in 2016, she was named one of Elle’s Women in Tech, before receiving recognition as a Forbes 30 Under 30 in 2017 and 2018.
In 2021, Wolfe Herd became the world’s youngest self-made billionaire after going public on Bumble.
Forbes estimated his net worth at approximately $1.5 billion.
