Ryan Gosling shared the strange advice he received from the late Burt Reynolds while promoting his new movie Wednesday on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Jimmy, 56, asked the 43-year-old Canadian actor about the first movie he did with Burt, who died in September 2018 at age 82.

‘I’m surprised you don’t know. Frankenstein and I,” Ryan said of the 1996 film.

Jimmy noted that Burt was a stuntman turned actor and Ryan was playing a stuntman in his new movie The Fall Guy.

Ryan said he was about 13 or 14 when he did Frankenstein and I and Jimmy asked him if he could spend time with Burt.

“It’s complicated,” Ryan said.

—Because I thought he liked it. I thought he thought there was something special about me. And then I realized that I have a very beautiful mother,” Ryan said, referring to his mother Donna.

“Oh,” Jimmy said. —So your mom was on set with you?

‘He was just kind of interested. It was as if he was taking on a secondary glow. The real shine went to my mom. And I thought, “Oh, this is a sideshow,” Ryan said.

“How long did it take you to realize that?” Jimmy asked.

“I wish I had figured it out sooner,” Ryan admitted.

Jimmy asked if his mom was flattered by the attention.

“Oh my god, she loved it, are you kidding me?” Ryan said.

Jimmy asked if Burt was friendly.

‘Yes, but you know. She was being friendly. She signed things all the time. She signed a Mean Machine t-shirt,” Ryan said.

Ryan said Burt also told all the kids not to watch Deliverance.

—Which, of course, was the first thing we did. “We should have listened to him,” Ryan said.

“Sure,” Jimmy said.

“He gave me this strange advice. He said, ‘Let me tell you something, kid. “Don’t spend your whole life stepping on diamonds to live with a cubic zirconia,” Ryan said.

‘What does that mean?’ said Jimmy.
