Zoe Ball’s replacement at BBC Radio 2 is revealed after the presenter announced she is taking time away from the show following devastating family news.

Zoe Ball’s replacement for her Radio 2 show was revealed after the presenter announced she would be taking time away from the show as her mother was diagnosed with cancer.

The radio DJ, 53, said she and her family were going through a “difficult time” following her mother Julia Peckham’s diagnosis, but praised her for being “brave”.

She also took the time to thank her friend Gaby Roslin for filling in for her in recent weeks and suggested that the presenter, 59, would also cover her future shifts.

Zoe took to social media to announce her break, concluding her message: “Thanks to Gaby for stepping in. Much love.”

Gaby commented on the post saying: ‘Love you Zoe and such love to your beautiful mum.’

She also took the time to thank her friend Gaby Roslin for filling in for her in recent weeks and suggested that the host, 59, would cover her future shifts as well (pictured in October).

Zoe shared a photo of her mother, 74, surrounded by family along with another of her receiving chemotherapy.

Along with the publication, he wrote: “It is heartbreaking that our beautiful mother Julia has been diagnosed with cancer.

‘As many of you know from experience, these are extremely difficult times. Mom is being incredibly brave.

‘My brother Jamie and I are completely amazed by the brilliant doctors, nurses and support teams who care for mum. Thank you.

‘Thank you to our families, relatives and friends at home and at work for their support at this time.

‘Sending love to people reading this who are fighting cancer or awaiting a diagnosis, and also to people caring for loved ones who are unwell.’

Zoe added that Gaby Roslin would be replacing her on her breakfast show while she spends time with her mother.

She wrote: ‘I’m trying to be at work having breakfast as often as I can but every now and then I need to be at home with my mum. Thanks to Gaby for intervening. Much love ❤️’.

Taking to social media, Zoe said: “Thanks to Gaby for stepping in. Much love,” while Gaby commented: “Love you Zoe and big love to your beautiful mum” (pictured alongside Chris Evans in 1996).

Zoe presents The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show from 6:30am to 9:30am, replacing Chris Evans in 2019.

She was inundated with well wishes from friends and followers after making the news of her mother’s diagnosis public.

Actress Amanda Abbington wrote: ‘Sending lots of love to you and your beautiful family dear. The most love.’

Fellow radio presenter Adele Roberts added: “Thinking of your amazing mum and sending lots of love to you all.”

Julia Bradbury wrote: ‘I’m so sorry to hear this Zoe. Wishing you and her family love and courage through this ❤️❤️’.

Former Strictly Come Dancing star Ola Jordan wrote: ‘Sending you and your mum so much love ❤️’.

In a 2013 interview with The Mail on Sunday, Zoe told how after her parents split up, she lived with her father and stepmother.

She said: “I didn’t see my mother Julia for a few years – she was very young when she married my father and had me, and when they separated I lived with my father and my other ‘mum’, his wife Diane. ‘

Her mother went through a difficult period after the death of her third husband, who had been diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2012.

‘I’m taking care of my mother a little now; I see her almost every day. “She’s beautiful,” Zoe said at the time.

She was inundated with good wishes from friends and followers after making the news of her mother’s diagnosis public.
