Celebrity stylist Law Roach says his styling days are over, after years of dressing high-profile stars like Zendaya, Shakira, Céline Dion and Jennifer Hudson.
Roach announced his retirement with a instagram post shared Tuesday afternoon. The “Legendary” judge shared a photo of a red “Retired” sign accompanied by a somewhat grim caption.
“My Cup is empty…thank you to everyone who has supported me and my career over the years. Every person who entrusted me with the image of him, I am very grateful for all of you, ”he wrote. “If this business was just for clothes, I would do it for the rest of my life, but unfortunately it’s not!”
Roach continued: “The politics, the lies, and the false narratives finally got me! You win… I’m out”.
The self-proclaimed image architect did not elaborate on the second part of his post, and his representatives did not respond to The Times’s request for comment on Tuesday.
Roach’s retirement came as a shock to his Hollywood and fashion peers, considering he’s styled hair for celebrities including Kerry Washington, Megan Thee Stallion, Hailee Steinfeld and the Hunter Schafer, breaker of the Internet for the post-Oscar celebrations on Sunday.
“I’m sorry. I’m not going to accept this,” said drag performer and “RuPaul’s Drag Race” star Shea Coulée.
Designer Christian Siriano wrote in Roach’s post, “absolutely not.”
Supermodel Naomi Campbell also responded, commenting, “Law, I won’t leave you! We don’t give up… we try our best.”
“We all come or go on our OWN terms. If you’re done because you want your next role, bless you… If you’re having a ‘moment’, keep up your main character’s energy! Either way: you got this!” actor Niecy Nash wrote.
Also showing support in the comments was TV’s Nene Leakes, model Aaron Rose Philip and influencer Addison Rae.
Roach, a regular at Hollywood Reporter’s Most Powerful Stylists Listwas the mind behind Zendaya Look inspired by Joan of Arc at the Met Gala 2018 and at Ariana Grande’s house renaissance painting dress of the same year, among other iconic outfits.
“I feel like if I’m going to leave a legacy and really get to a position where my work and the things I’ve done really create a pathway for someone else, especially someone of color, then I can.” Don’t be complacent about the things I’ve…done,” she told The Times in 2019. “You have to keep moving.”
