Zebra zips out of South Korea zoo, only to be zapped and brought back

Date:

A zebra was galloping through the busy streets of Seoul, South Korea, for about three hours after escaping from one of the city’s zoos.

After something of a joyride, the young zebra, a male named Sero who was born at the zoo in 2021, was cornered in an alleyway in a residential area and was tranquilized by emergency workers before returning to the zoo at Children’s Grand Park. around 6:10 p.m. local time Thursday, according to Yonhap News Agency.

Sero was in stable condition and would be examined by veterinarians, said Choi Ye-ra, a zoo official. He added that the way in which the equine escaped is being investigated.

She would not confirm initial reports that the animal escaped from its pen shortly before 3:00 p.m. by partially destroying a wooden fence.

Videos of the zebra’s exploits flooded social media prior to its capture.

In one video, Sero is seen galloping through an intersection in a shopping district as onlookers freeze in their tracks.

Another video shows the zebra weaving in and out of stalled traffic to approach another busy intersection.

After Sero entered an alleyway, the authorities were able to catch him using a security fence.

There were no injuries or damage as a result of the zoo breach.
