She posted a statement to her two million Instagram followers explaining that she had “struggled with the fear of opening up” because she was “afraid of public backlash and victim shaming.”
The documentary host wrote: ‘There have been reports made about my treatment on the show and there have been witnesses to some events as well as videos of particular incidents which are incredibly distressing to watch.
‘After many conversations with those I love, I have gained the strength to face these fears.
But despite a difficult time on the show, it has boasted impressive financial results since its appearance.
Since her time on Love Island, Zara has become a documentary maker for the BBC and recently launched a sportswear range, Rise, with Tesco.
“And when I was asked to speak to the BBC, I spoke candidly about my time on the show.”
Last month it was also revealed that the former Made In Chelsea star competed in a dance competition with a broken leg and was kicked by her professional dancer partner during their training sessions.
The Sun revealed that Zara needed painkillers to endure ten-hour training sessions after breaking a bone in her leg on the show.
Professional dancer Giovanni was also fired from the show following an ongoing investigation into his conduct after actress Amanda told the broadcaster she had been mistreated.

Zara’s close friend and boyfriend Sam Thompson, Pete Wicks, is now among the next batch of stars to take part in the show.
