With benefits: German online fashion retailer Zalando sells brands such as Nike and Sweaty Betty
Zalando hopes a summer of sport will help it sell even more sportswear after returning to profit this year.
The German online fashion retailer, which sells brands such as Nike and Sweaty Betty, believes business will be boosted by the Euro 2024 football championship, which will be held in Germany, and the Paris Olympics.
Zalando posted a profit of £24.3m for the first three months of 2024, after suffering a loss of £600,000 the previous year.
Bosses said it made a profit thanks to better stock management and the average order value rose to £52 from £49.20.
Although total sales fell 0.6 per cent to £1.9bn, more shoppers bought sportswear.
Chief financial officer Sandra Dembeck said: “I would say the most important moments are still ahead with the Olympic Games and the European Championships.”
Fashion companies hope the Paris Games will help sell more sports fashion this summer.
