For a guy who’s produced several movies about zombie apocalypses, hyper-violent historical battles with shirtless men screaming, and anti-heroic superheroes beating each other to the bone, you’d think Zack Synder would somehow have been involved in a video game today. It sounds like that’s about to change, if we’re to believe what the director of Zack Snyder’s Justice League And Army of the dead said on a recent podcast.
Snyder appeared on an episode of the Nerd Queens podcast released on YouTube on Sunday and spoke about several of his ongoing projects, such as his fundraising collaborations with American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, his upcoming two-part space opera film Rebel Moonas well as hinting at a possible theatrical re-release of his DC Universe movies linked to the recent teaser video Snyder tweeted on March 15. The director seemed to be having a lot of fun – so much so that he mentioned a previously unannounced project he’s working on: an RPG set in the universe of Rebel Moon.
“The one thing I’m really enjoying — and I don’t really know if I should talk about it — is this RPG that we’re doing, which is just literally insane, and so immersive and so intense and so huge,” Snyder revealed while he discussed his aforementioned sci-fi film with Sofia Boutella (The mummy), Djimon Hounsou (Blood diamond) and Ed Skrein (Game of Thrones). The director interrupted himself before saying: “There’s more to come, but all I’ll say is it was pitched to me – because I’ve always wanted to make an RPG – like, ‘well, we should do it right now. scale, or we could do it on a ridiculous scale. Snyder briefly elaborated further, revealing that he had pitched the idea for the game himself to an as-yet-unnamed developer and hinted that the project was still relatively early is under development.
It goes without saying that there are tons of video games adapted from sci-fi and fantasy movies. Likewise, there have been just as many so-called sci-fi video game adaptations that otherwise never materialized (Christopher Nolan announced his interest in making a Start video game back in 2010, a project the director is apparently still interested in). Here’s hoping Zack Snyder is forthcoming, untitled and not officially announced yet Rebel Moon video game will see the light of day.
Rebel Moon will be released on December 22, 2023 and streamed on Netflix.
