An engaged man died in a tragic accident months before marrying his partner.

Zachary David Wilson was working on the roadside as a municipal gardener when he was hit by a car in Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast at 11.35am on Friday.

A van towing a caravan crashed into several cars and a parked vehicle flew towards him before he was rushed to hospital in a critical condition, where he died.

Wilson had been engaged to his soulmate Lucy Milward and would marry her in seven months.

A heartbreaking photo was shared on Facebook showing her hugging and kissing her fiancé’s hand as he lay in a hospital bed.

Milward’s mother, Jody, wrote that both sides of the family had “had their hearts ripped out.”

“Zachary has been tragically separated from those he loved and those who loved him,” Jody wrote.

‘An innocent bystander on the trail doing his job, when a pickup truck towing a camper veered into the path of oncoming traffic, causing another vehicle to dart onto the trail right where Zachary was standing at the time.

‘One of those strange and tragic accidents. And the world has lost a fine young man.

“Instead of planning a wedding, we are now planning a funeral.”

Jody shared her heartbreak that her daughter wouldn’t be able to marry her soulmate.

“Instead of Lucy’s father walking her down the hallway, he pushed the hospital bed where his daughter and lovelorn son shared their last hug, to the place where we would say goodbye forever,” she wrote.

‘Our hearts have been ripped out.

‘Zachary, we love you. We miss you. Our lives will never be the same without you.’

Friends and loved ones shared their condolences in the social media post.

‘My God! I have no words!’ one wrote.

‘The world has just lost an incredible person, so full of life. I send all my love and hugs to all of you. I can’t imagine what Lucy and all of you are going through.’

‘Oh, Jody! “I have been thinking about this poor young man, his family and his friends since I heard about the tragic accident,” another person wrote.

“I had an idea about Zachary’s connection to you and Lucy.”

The ute towing a caravan is believed to have been traveling north along brisbane Road when he turned into oncoming traffic and struck five vehicles, including the parked car that struck Mr. Wilson.

He was rushed to Sunshine Coast University Hospital but was later transferred to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in Brisbane, where he died.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said the driver of the double cab is suspected to have suffered a medical episode before losing control and crashing the vehicle.

The driver and a female passenger were taken to the hospital in stable condition.
