Hollywood star Zac Efron is making plans to build a “sustainable” home on a property on the New South Wales mid-north coast.
The High School Musical actor, 36, purchased the woodland getaway near Byron Bay for $2 million in 2020.
A development application has been submitted to build a two-storey, six-bedroom off-grid, “zero waste” site on 128 hectares for $2.685 million.
Efron’s name did not appear on the application submitted to Tweed County Council.
Instead, Joost Bakker, an environmental activist and friend of the star, was named in the documents as the “proponent” of the DA.
But Efron’s name was still used as the property’s title, the outlet reported. The Daily Telegraph on Thursday.
Bakker, a former florist, is a well-known environmental activist and designer and often features content related to sustainable housing in his frequent social media posts.
Efron’s property is located in a rugged rural setting near Tomewin, 25km inland from the popular beach resort of Coolangatta and 75km from Byron Bay.

The plans call for a super-sized home that is off the grid and would include a gym and feature a design known as “carbon sequestration,” a process that helps reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
Known as ‘Futurecave’, the ultra-modern dwelling is designed by Frank Burridge of Main Studio architects and will consist of ‘pods’ connected by a walkway.
The house has an area of 830 square meters and the capsules used in its construction are made of hemp panels.
Its features include a “green roof” for plant life and a “refuge” for butterflies and fireflies.
According to the report, Efron’s property is in a rainforest area and features three streams and waterfalls.
The Disaster Artist star purchased the land while in Australia during the COVID lockdown.
This comes after Efron insisted he is “happy and healthy” after being hospitalised over the weekend after taking a dip in a pool while on holiday in Ibiza.
‘A large amount of water entered his lungs’ after coming into contact with the bottom of the pool.
The protagonist had “showed signs of distress” and was “momentarily stunned” by the incident, sources told the outlet, at which point security officers rushed to his aid.
Efron’s name was not listed on the application paperwork, which was lodged with Tweed Shire Council. The Ibiza accident comes 11 years after a near-death experience in which the star slipped in a puddle of water while running in socks at home.
He then crashed his chin into a granite fountain, leaving his chin bone “hanging from his face.”
Zac later told Entertainment Tonight that he almost died after the freak injury, explaining: “It was fun. It sucks. I almost died, but we’re okay.”

The movie star famously claimed the accident caused her change in appearance, leading to a flurry of speculation in recent years that she had undergone cosmetic surgery.
Zac has always denied having any plastic surgery, insisting instead that the masseter muscles inside his face and jaw “compensated” for his 2013 injury, leading to his shape change.
The High School Musical star even claimed that she didn’t know her transformation had gone viral on social media until her mother told her about the plastic surgery rumors.
Despite all his efforts to dispel the rumors, Zac has recently received new accusations after fans watched his most recent hit, A Family Affair.
