A woman was stunned by a simple but obvious TikTok trick for grating cheese.

Brenna Breedlove from Texas couldn’t believe she’d been grating cheese “wrong” her entire life when she discovered the easy trick.

Grating cheese is one of the most frustrating tasks in the kitchen; many chefs resent the pain of holding the grater in the air or having to wash an extra dish.

But Brenna showed her followers a simple solution, in a video that has already racked up more than 20 million views.

“The things I learn on TikTok,” she captioned her post on her account. @go4gobblerwith the hashtag ‘#yourewelcomeforthis’.

“I’m still ashamed of myself for not knowing this before,” she added in the comments section.

The mother of two simply turned the grater on its side, rather than holding it upright.

Then he began to grate the cheese easily, using the bottom of the grater as a buffer to avoid making a mess.

Social media users couldn’t believe the simple trick, and many couldn’t believe how easy it was.

They said, ‘This could have saved my knuckles a long time ago’;

‘Sometimes I forget that life has no rules’;

‘Some things are so simple that I feel like my intelligence is being tested’;

“Who let me be an adult, this is honestly embarrassing.”

Social media users were impressed by the simple life hack, but some were left confused by how Brenna had previously been grating cheese.

However, others were confused because Brenna had ever been grating her cheese while holding the grater vertically.

They said, ‘How else can you use a cheese grater….’;

‘How did you do it before?’

This comes after people were left stunned to discover what the fourth side of a cheese grater is used for.

A Reddit user posted a photo of their own cheese grater, showing the side with the smallest holes.

He asked, “Does anyone ever use this part of the grater? What is it for?”

In a comment, the user added: “All this has done is hurt my hand, but I’ve literally never used those small hole graters. I basically use the other side to make shredded cheese.”

And it turns out u/MrLewk wasn’t alone in his uncertainty, as hundreds of people struggled to come up with a solid answer.

It's pretty obvious what sides one, two, and three are for... but what about the fourth side of the cheese grater?

One person commented: ‘It’s to get that damn thing stuck in the kitchen drawer out and tear off a piece of the front of the drawer.’

An equally confused Redditor wrote: “I have this exact one… and I also assumed it was to make the cheese chunk smaller after you grate it. ‘However, all it does is screw up your hand when you hold it wrong… mf… scrapes up a good knuckle…”

While another joked: “It’s very useful for shredding cleaning sponges.”

Luckily, some expert chefs shared their knowledge on how to use the dreaded fourth side.

One person wrote: ‘It took me years to realise that parmesan and lemon, orange or lime zest are best grated on those two sides.’
