YouTube star James Charles posts a video acknowledging that he is responsible for messaging 16-year-old boys
YouTube star James Charles shared a video in which he took ‘full responsibility’ for his actions after two boys under the age of 18 claimed he had sent them explicit photos and sexually explicit messages.
The 21-year-old makeup guru – who counts the Kardashian-Jenner sisters among his army of famous friends – posted the video entitled “ holding myself accountable ” in response to allegations made by two boys who were under the age of 18.
The teens claimed that Charles, who has 25.7 million YouTube subscribers, had requested nude photos of them.
“Today’s video is going to be heartfelt and I’m going to focus on what happened – all the conclusions I’ve come to – and, most importantly, hold myself accountable for my own actions,” he began.
First and foremost, I have to say sorry. I owe a huge apology to anyone I’ve hurt or anyone I was uncomfortable with my actions. ‘
He then said he added both guys on Snapchat and ‘asked how old they were right away, was told they were 18, she believed, had a flirtatious conversation and later found out they were 16’.
Charles said he was “embarrassed” and “immediately blocked both people.”

He also noted that his immediate response was ‘so stupid’ and after he ‘reflected on himself’ he realized that ‘I screwed up’.
“I had to be accountable for my actions and, more importantly, apologize to the people who were affected,” said Charles.
‘These conversations should never have taken place … and I take full responsibility for that. I relied more on the information I got than the information I could have and should have gotten myself, ”he said, referring to videos shot by prosecutors.
“No one but myself can blame this,” said Charles.
His video comes more than a month after he denied the allegations against him.
At the time, he posted the following lengthy statement: ‘There’s a video about me going around on TikTok and Twitter from a guy calling me a groomer and I want to do something about it right away. The charge that I took care of this person is completely false.
Last week, I ran into someone on my Instagram scout page, saw him following me, and added him on snapchat.
The next morning I woke up to some snaps of this person who was excited, I added him back and said he loved me, as well as lewd photos of him in the shower.
‘I immediately asked how old he was and he told me he was 18 so I started flirting back.’
He then said he added both guys on Snapchat and ‘asked how old they were right away, was told they were 18, she believed, had a flirtatious conversation and later found out they were 16’. When he found out they were old, he said he immediately blocked them

He continued: ‘In the excitement of meeting someone who I thought could be potentially great, I didn’t ask for a copy of their ID or passport.
‘It’s clear now, based on the video he uploaded, he took pictures of me with another device and had an ulterior motive from the start.
Later in the day he said a few things that made me question the validity of his original age answer and when I asked him to reconfirm his age, he admitted he was 16.
‘I told him I was really uncomfortable and apologized for the flirting but he insisted on talking further and said it could be our little secret, he’s a fan of mine and would never tell anyone.
‘I told him I didn’t agree, he started to get angry and that’s when I unfriended him. We haven’t spoken to each other since then. I’m also not the victim blaming him or victimizing myself, I’m just sharing what happened and what happened wasn’t okay.
“After these kinds of false accusations in the past, I would never knowingly engage in a conversation with a minor and risk my life for a few snapchats.”
He concluded, “Because of situations like these, now instead of taking someone’s word, I will now ask for the ID or passport of any man I have a conversation with.”
In 2019, then 19-year-old James lost millions of subscribers – including several celebrities – in just days, after his bitter feud with fellow makeup artist Tati Westbrook (pictured together) went public.
The incident isn’t the first time Charles has made headlines.
In 2019, then 19-year-old James lost millions of subscribers – including several celebrities – in just days, after his bitter feud with fellow makeup artist Tati Westbrook went public.
His career took a storm after his former mentor criticized him in a 43-minute video detailing the reasons why she decided to end their years of friendship.
After James chose to promote another makeup company over hers, Tati, 39, accused him of making strides with men he knew were straight, manipulating the sexuality of others, and speaking rudely about sex in the language. in front of her friends and family.
A year later, Tati would release a tearful apology, admitting to spreading false rumors about her former boyfriend’s private life after getting “ toxic lies ” from fellow YouTubers Jeffree Star and Shane Dawson.
Tati in her 40 minute apology video: ‘Believing in those lies and burning myself to make that video is one of the biggest regrets of my life.
The information they gave me was terrifying. I was told there would be many casualties. ‘
While Tati hinted that her feud with James was over, Shane took to Instagram Live while reviewing Tati’s apology, calling her a “ liar. ”
James and Tati had enjoyed years of friendship, with Tati driving traffic to James’ pages and praising him in videos.
Kim Kardashian appeared on James’ channel with her makeup artist Mario
But their feud started when James attended the Coachella music festival in April 2019 and promoted Sugar Bear Hair vitamins on his Instagram story.
The company – which promises to strengthen and add shine to hair – is in direct competition with Tati’s supplements, Halo Beauty, a brand that James previously said was not the right choice for its young followers.
Tati, who helped strengthen and grow James’s career, was left frustrated, posting videos in her own Instagram stories about feeling ‘betrayed’.
‘When you do so much for people in your life and not only don’t return them the favor, but they just don’t even see you … I’m just so upset. I feel really used to it, ”she said through tears, but didn’t mention James by name.
Still, James suspected that the anonymous “betrayal” she was referring to was his own, and released a statement about his own stories.
“I want to publicly apologize to my good friend Tati,” he said. ‘She has been like a mother to me since my first days in this industry and has given me more love, support, resources and advice than I could ever ask for.
This weekend, I did an Instagram story for vitamins I was taking because the brand helped me with security when the crowd around me at Coachella became unsafe. I have not taken any money from this post. ‘
Whether paid or not, beauty bloggers like Gabriel Zamora jumped to James’s defense, saying that Tati had no right to be upset about the vitamins.
This is ultimately why Tati, who goes by @GlamLifeGuru, released a full-length video entitled ‘Bye Sister’ in May 2019 – the devastating rant that led to a massive loss of followers for her former protégé.
