Young woman whose mother didn’t recognize her after eating fast food every day reveals how she lost 30 kg

A young woman who weighed 95kg in early 2020 shocked her family and friends after losing 30kg in 12 months.

Cora Henderson, from Sydney, began her weight-loss journey in early 2020 after her mother failed to recognize her when she picked her up at the airport.

The 21-year-old call center employee was shocked by McDonald’s takeout every day while working as a flight attendant and never exercised.

“My mom didn’t recognize me because I had gained so much weight since the last time she saw me six months earlier, so she sat down and asked what was going on,” Cora told FEMAIL.

“It was awful to hear, but if she hadn’t said anything, I probably would have been ten pounds heavier. The next day I completely changed my lifestyle.’

After changing her diet and joining a gym, Cora lost weight to 65kg and now fits in size 8 women’s clothing.

Cora previously worked as a flight attendant and constantly ate unhealthy foods on the job and never ate fruits or vegetables.

“Before getting on the flight, I ordered a McDonald’s meal at the airport food court because it was easy,” she said.

“It was an unhealthy habit, but I didn’t realize how big I had grown.”

When she went shopping, she only bought ‘unhealthy food and snacks’.

“I would watch TV and eat out of boredom because I could,” she said.

To lose the first 20 kg, Cora focused on improving her diet by eating less, drinking only water and exercising for at least an hour every day.

“For the first month I put myself on a junk food ban so I didn’t eat out anywhere, which was great for me and such a big change,” she said.

After joining the local gym, she focused on cardio and as time went on, Cora introduced weights into her fitness routine.

“It was awful and difficult in the beginning because I was so unfit — I got on a treadmill for the first time and couldn’t run for more than 20 seconds,” she said.

She also attended high-intensity interval training (HIIT) sessions and dance classes.

“Later, during a session, I got help from a personal trainer who taught me how to use the equipment in the weight room,” she said.

The “most challenging aspect” of losing the 30kg was making sure she was consistent and hit the gym every day.

“I was so hard on myself and taking a day off made me feel so guilty,” she said.

“Once I started seeing results, I just wanted to work harder.”

To find motivation when she didn’t want to exercise, she changed the background on her phone to an image of her ‘dream body’ for inspiration.

The last 10kg was the ‘most frustrating’ aspect of her weight loss journey, as Cora’s results stopped when she dropped to 75kg.

Although it was challenging at times, her perseverance and training paid off and she managed to lose the extra 10 kg.

“It’s important to remember that no one is going to do this for you, you are the only one who can do it for yourself,” Cora said, advising others to lose weight.

“You won’t get the body you want sitting down. Just focus on your diet and exercise routine and stay consistent.”

She also recommended reading inspirational quotes daily, believing in yourself, and shrinking your plate to make sure you don’t overeat.

Cora’s ‘Day on a Plate’ today:

Breakfast – banana for the gym then toast, protein and a slice of bacon
