Young woman, 22, reveals how she changed her life and appearance by losing 23 pounds

A 22-year-old entrepreneur has shared how she changed her life in just five months by losing 23 kg – without an expensive gym membership.

In November 2017 Angel Bowyer, from Sydney, weighed 73 kg but was motivated to lose weight by a friend who used to be a personal trainer.

The Instagram influencer, who confessed to meeting McDonald’s and KFC almost every day, shed the weight in five short months by working outside in the backyard or in the park.

“ I started including a lot of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) sessions in my week, as well as some strength training, and started eating well, ” Angel told FEMAIL.

“I did four HIIT workouts and three strength sessions every week without even signing up at a gym – I was too shy to join!”

In April 2018, she set the scale to 50 kg and reached her goal of fitting a size 6.

“Within the first month, I saw drastic results and that only motivated me to work harder and educate myself about health and fitness,” she said.

‘I then started reading Kim Beach’s’ Beach Fit’ which explained a lot about exercise routines, why specific things are important and diet examples.

‘HIIT changed my life – the high intensity workouts became super addictive, I love to sweat and they definitely make you look like you just got back from the pools.’

This type of training style often includes multiple bodyweight or lightweight exercises combined with short rest periods.

Angel said that when others asked how she lost weight so quickly, she always responded with “ HIIT, protein and salad. ”

Before embarking on a new lifestyle and fitness routine, Angel admitted that she would eat fatty foods almost every day, including KFC and McDonald’s.

‘I ate out a lot and that’s why I gained weight so quickly! I still have the occasional fast food party, but I try to stay healthy during the week, ” she said.

Angel changed her diet by eating delicious fresh fruits, vegetables, salads and large amounts of protein to build strength.

Although it was difficult to exercise regularly at times, Angel said the `` biggest challenge of all '' was learning to apply makeup properly and change her appearance.

“This is best if you’re on a tight schedule, the workout takes less than 20 minutes, your heart rate gets going and keeps burning fat all day long!” Angel said

‘I dyed my hair ash blonde at the beginning of last year and I should say it gave me a huge confidence boost! I absolutely love Ariana Grande and get a lot of my inspiration from her, ‘she said.

‘I also often learn new trendy hairstyles from TikTok or YouTube and try to put my own spin on it.’

Ever since Angel reached her target weight of 50kg and fit a size 6, Angel’s life has changed ‘drastically’ in several ways.

‘In all aspects, both mental and physical, I feel like I am super motivated when I see results in what I have achieved and it really improves mental health,’ she said.

‘My days consist of being active compared to when I was always on my laptop watching Netflix.

‘I’ve also always been fashionable since I was younger and being overweight has pushed me to wear mostly oversized and baggy clothes – I didn’t mind but I feel so comfortable with my body now’, she said.

After changing her look and lifestyle, she gained the confidence to hit a gym in March 2019 to maintain her toned physique and gain strength.

Since Angel reached her goal weight of 50 kilograms and fit in a size 6, Angel’s life has changed ‘drastically’ in several ways, both physically and mentally.

With her 100,000 Instagram followers, Angel hopes her weight-loss journey can inspire other young people to exercise and lose weight when necessary.

But at the other end of the spectrum, she also hopes that women don’t worry too much about their body image if they happen to put on a little bit of weight.

‘I always preach that the scales don’t matter! When I first started strength training in the gym, I gained five pounds in a month and I was so confused and upset, I felt like I was going backwards, but I slowly realized that muscle weight is a thing, ” said they.

‘I am now trying to base it on how I look, and not on the numbers on the scale. I am currently 57 kg but super happy with the way I look. ‘

Angel is very proud of what she has accomplished and is ‘absolutely ecstatic’ about reaching six-digit followers on social media as she is able to promote a healthy lifestyle to others online.

When asked what advice she would give to others who want to lose weight, Angel said you shouldn’t be too hard on yourself all the time as this could cause you to lose motivation.

“I feel like being too hard on yourself, you’re more likely to fail and become discouraged,” she said.

‘If you feel like eating some of that cake, have a few bites! It can’t hurt and you will save yourself from going crazy later on. ‘
