A couple in the small town of Sodus, in upstate New York, was brutally shot dead in a street attack in their hometown on Monday, while their baby was sitting in his car.

Joshua Niles, 28, and Amber Washburn, 24, were on the street of their house in the small neighborhood outside of Rochester on Monday at 2 pm when someone wearing a hood shot Joshua. It collapsed under the car. Next, the suspect shot Amber who was still inside the vehicle.

After the horrible shooting, the individual, who is still at large, fired several more shots at Joshua, before fleeing on foot.

The couple's three-month-old baby was in the back seat of the car, and he was unharmed.

The incident occurred near the Sodus Central School District, where the schools were temporarily locked, and they remained closed on Tuesday while the incident was being investigated.

The couple had lived on the street for less than a year, and police are saying that this was an attack aimed at the couple, however, they have few clues as to who the suspect is.

They add that there is no current danger to the community, despite the discordant incident.

The couple's neighbor, Anthony Mancine, who witnessed the first-hand shots, told News10NBC: "I heard what I thought were the fireworks and then I looked over there, I saw a man fall under the car."

He added & # 39; The person. [suspect] I was firing about six to seven rounds.

Mancine called 911 immediately.

"While talking to 911, the person turned around and shot the girl in the car," Mancine added.
