A young motorcyclist was killed in an alleged hit-and-run, and the car’s occupants fled and ditched their vehicle.

Police said a dark Holden Commodore and the dirt bike were going in opposite directions on Dalrymple Service Road in Townsville about 4.40pm on Tuesday.

The motorcyclist, a 19-year-old from Vincent, suffered critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, located near a school.

Police allege that after the crash, the occupants fled the scene in the Commodore.

The vehicle was later found abandoned at an address in Marcel Street, Kirwan.

Investigations looking for the people who were in the Commodore are ongoing.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward.

More to come.
