A young hiker who had been missing in New South Wales’ Kosciuszko National Park for almost two weeks has been found alive, his family has revealed.

Hadi Nazari, 23, broke away from his friends to take photographs along the Hannels Spur Trail between Khancoban and Thredbo, in Mount Kosciuszko National Park in the Snowy Mountains, at around 2.30pm on Boxing Day.

The hiker called his family Wednesday to tell them he was safe and healthy.

“We talked to him… He’s fine… He’s fine,” the family said. 9News.

‘We are very happy. It’s the happiest day of our lives.’

Nazari, a neurosurgery student, is understood to have been found by hikers about 20 kilometers from the main police command post in Geehi.

“After a 13-day multi-agency search involving more than 300 people, around 3:15 p.m. today (Wednesday), a 23-year-old man was located by hikers outside the loop near Blue Lake. “New South Wales Police said in a statement.

“He was winched from the scene to the command post, where paramedics are examining him.”

On Tuesday, police shared a discovery that fueled hope that Nazari was alive.

Searches found a camera, a camera case and a lighter next to the remains of a small campfire on Sunday.

Riverina Police District Inspector Josh Broadfoot thanked emergency services for their efforts to find the hiker over the past fortnight.

“This is an incredible result, after 13 long days it has been located,” he said.

‘We would like to thank our partner emergency services agencies, volunteers and members of the public for their help.

“We never gave up hope of finding him and we are delighted to be able to return him safely to his family.”
