A toddler has died after a caravan caught fire in a lakeside resort town in Victoria.
Emergency services were called to extinguish the fire on Lake View Street, in Boort, at 5.50pm on Thursday.
Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire but found the child dead inside the caravan.
Victoria Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
“The arson and explosives team has been notified and a fire chemist will attend the scene to determine the cause of the fire,” a spokesperson said.
“Officers are aware of the impact such a tragic incident has on family, community members and first responders and will ensure social support services are in place.”
Boort, located next to Lake Boort in the Shire of Loddon, is a tourist hotspot northwest of Melbourne.
It gets crowded in the summer months as travelers flock to the area’s lakes.

It is still unclear whether the boy was a local or a visitor.
