“Put the spoon down!”
So says etiquette expert William Hanson in an Instagram tips video in which he promises to show viewers how to eat spaghetti “more lady than tramp.”
Italians, he says at the start of the video, never eat spaghetti with a spoon, so this tool should be discarded.
‘Instead,’ said William“you flip the fork over in your dominant hand and you get into the edge of the spaghetti and against the side of the plate or bowl and twist (the strands around the fork).”
If you need to “tuck in” and twist the strands around the crotch again, do that.

The result should be a nice ball of spaghetti around the fork.
MailOnline Travel asked William if it was still okay to suck on the spaghetti strands and suck.
– No, answered Guillaume. “In Western restaurants, we shouldn’t make noise while eating.”
And is it still okay to tuck the napkin into the top of the shirt to eat spaghetti, as they so often do in movies?

“Towels are placed on the lap and not tucked into the shirt,” William replied.
Is there a good and a bad for the dishes? Is a plate better than a bowl?
William said: “There was a motto in Britain that only dogs eat from bowls, while humans have plates.
“As dining trends and tastes have changed and bowls of pasta are more common, the best way to serve long pasta would be in a soup plate or something similar in shape and size.”
Wondering how to serve parmesan?
William reveals that at a formal dinner, the parmesan should be pre-grated in a ramekin or cut glass bowl, with a base plate underneath, with a spoon “to help with sprinkling”.
He added: “For a very casual dinner, you can allow guests to grate their own.”
