Yorkshire remain winless in all formats this summer after 28-run defeat by Durham in T20 Blast

Date:

Yorkshire remain VICTORYLESS in all formats this summer following a 28-point loss to Durham in T20 Blast as Alex Lees comes back to haunt them… as Surrey suffer their first defeat of the summer

  • Yorkshire are yet to record a win in all cricket formats amid off-field turmoil
  • They suffered a 28-point loss to Durham at Headingley in the Blast on Sunday
  • Elsewhere, there were wins for Sussex and Somerset in Sunday’s fixtures

Yorkshire’s nightmare season continued with a 28-point loss to Durham in the T20 Blast at Headingley.

The damage was caused by Alex Lees, who left Yorkshire in 2018 and broke a career-high 90 from 53 balls to take the visitors to 217 for three after Graham Clark – a centurion against Northamptonshire on Friday – fell on the first pitch of the innings.

There were also runs for Durham wicketkeeper Ollie Robinson, who hit an unbeaten 64 from 30 balls, another career high, before Ben Raine took three for 27 in Yorkshire’s response of 189 for Sept.

The defeat, their third in three in T20 cricket this season, means Yorkshire – currently bottom of County Championship Division Two – are still winless in all cricket.

Amid continued speculation over would-be sugar daddies to save them from financial oblivion following the fallout from the Azeem Rafiq race scandal, the search for consolation on the pitch continues.

Meanwhile, Surrey suffered their first defeat in all cricket, losing by five wickets to Sussex at The Oval.

Chasing a modest 149, Sussex slipped to 56 for four, before Tom Alsop and wicketkeeper Michael Burgess, with a punishing 48 from 28, got them back on track.

Alsop was still there at the end with an unbeaten 51 as Sussex went home with a ball to spare to open their Group South account. Earlier, Sussex captain Ravi Bopara took three for 18 to keep the Surrey batsmen quiet.

In the other match of the day, Somerset took three wins from three after a four-wicket win over Glamorgan at Taunton.

Set 154, they were boosted by fly-half Tom Banton’s 28-54 and ran home with 31 to spare. Somerset are now top of the South group, with the only record of 100% in the division.
