A yoga teacher has alleged that the coronavirus is to blame for his driving offenses after only having ‘hours’ to prepare for a lockdown.

James ‘Mantra’ Schultz was caught on March 24 driving a driver’s license at Mansfield, south of Brisbane, Sunshine Coast Daily reported.

The 36-year-old, who owns Flex Hot Yoga in Norman Park, was caught following the federal government’s decision to ban companies like gyms and pubs from March 23 to maintain social distance.

He told Holland Park Magistrates Court that he was driving to “get my business online in a few hours.”

Schultz said there were no employees to assist him with stock pick-up and that he could not wait “three or four days” for delivery.

“I had no choice but to buy it myself,” said Schultz.

The yoga teacher claimed that he had helped control the spread of the coronavirus by avoiding taking a taxi or ride service like Uber and driving himself.

Magistrate Simon Young said the argument was inconclusive, and Schultz was fined $ 400.

He was also excluded from driving for six months.
