A 66-year-old man has died after his e-bike crashed into a wall in Canberra’s south.
The cyclist is believed to have crashed in an underpass on the Athllon Drive cycle path in Kambah, at 5.10pm on Sunday.
The man died shortly after being treated by paramedics at the scene.
Deaths from electric bicycle and scooter accidents have become increasingly common in recent years.
A recent study by St Vincents Hospital in Sydney found that more than 500 e-cyclists had required critical care in emergency rooms as a result of accidents.
This latest tragedy follows the death of Khye Brickwell, a 12-year-old boy from Victoria whose electric scooter collided with a car on Wednesday night.
The young man spent five days in hospital after the accident in Mill Park, in Melbourne’s northeast, and his organs were donated.
The crash marks the 10th death on ACT roads in 2024.
