“This game can bring out a lot of emotions,” Stroman said after the game. “I’m very passionate. I care about winning for this team and this city. And sometimes my emotions come out. I communicated with everyone I needed after the game. Like I said, everything is aimed at winning and being excellent. Sometimes it’s frustrating” .

Asked if he was specifically upset about the botched double play, Stroman was refreshingly honest.

“It was frustrating,” he admitted. “At the end of the day, I felt like I made a good pitch and that was an important point, I wanted it to spin there and we didn’t. Raw emotion came out.”

Stroman worked just 4.1 innings and put his team, which was in the midst of a four-game losing streak, in a tough spot. Luckily, the team would come out of the inning trailing just 3-1 and the Yankees’ bats came alive to He eventually won 16-5.

In reality, Torres was part of that offensive start. The infielder who had been on the bench the last two games due to his lack of production at the plate, went 2 for 4 with a home run. Once Torres rounded the bases and headed to the dugout, Stroman was the first to greet and congratulate him.

“I talked to Gleyber right afterward. I’m someone who is there for each and every guy,” Stroman said. “In the moment, obviously, it’s frustrating, but there’s nothing I love more than seeing my guys win, make big plays and hit. We’re all very passionate about what we do, we all work very hard and sometimes the raw emotions come out.”

Torres said after that that he didn’t give much thought to Stroman’s actions and that he understood the frustrations.

“In those types of situations, when you’re trying to help your team and pitch well, emotions come out,” Torres said. “I really understand that. I don’t have a problem with that. I know how difficult the game is. When you have that type of relationship with your teammates, there’s never any problems.”

Stroman doubled down on his postgame comments by taking to social media to support his team and take responsibility for his actions on the field.
