Yankees fans mourned the firing of Aaron Boone after his team dramatically collapsed in Game 5 of the World Series and allowed the Los Angeles Dodgers to clinch the title in the Bronx.
Boone’s team was up 5-0 before a catastrophic fifth-inning meltdown saw Los Angeles complete the largest comeback victory to clinch a World Series, winning 7-6.
While the players had a long list of mistakes in the loss, fans placed much of the blame on Boone’s late decisions in what Alex Rodriguez called “One of the biggest collapses I’ve seen in 40 years.”
“I knew he was a problem when they showed him laughing on the bench winning 5-0,” one fan wrote.
“Literally the worst coach in the history of baseball, a useless bag of shit,” exclaimed a second. “If they don’t fire him, they should reduce his salary.”
Yankees fans angered manager Aaron Boone after losing the World Series in five games
Down 0-5, the Los Angeles Dodgers completed the biggest comeback in a title-clinching victory.
“There is absolutely no reason why Aaron Boone should continue to be the manager of the Yankees,” chimed in a third. “Absolutely terrible decisions, from not touching guys to not using your best pitchers with the game on the line.” Incredible.’
“If Aaron Boone is not fired before we wake up in the morning, we will riot,” wrote a fourth.
A fifth user wrote ‘Aaron Boone’s legacy’ over a graph of Yankees errors Wednesday night.
The list included three errors, a catcher’s interference, a balk and five unearned runs. He also mentioned Gerrit Cole’s failure to cover first base on a Mookie Betts run, which spelled the beginning of the end for the Bronx Bombers.
Fans criticized Boone’s decision-making after the catastrophic collapse at Yankee Stadium.
“I’m heartbroken,” Boone said in his postgame news conference. “I’m 51 years old, I put my life into it, so you’re chasing that (winning feeling) and when you get that close, it’s heartbreaking.”
Boone joined the Yankees in 2018 and went 603-429 in his seven seasons. He also led the talented roster to the playoffs in every season except 2023.
The infuriating fumble in Game 5 came after the Yankees lit up the five boroughs by avoiding a sweep on Tuesday. After trailing 0-3 in the series, New York won Game 4, 11-4.
Unfortunately for the Yankees, the Dodgers, who took over the New York Mets in the National League Championship Series, went on to win their eighth title and second in the last five years.
