Big things could be happening in the Bronx this October if Carlos Rodon continues to pitch as he has been lately.
The Yankees lefty had another strong outing Saturday, shutting out the Oakland Athletics for six innings, allowing five hits and one walk while striking out four for his 16th straight win.He win of the season and raise his ERA to 3.98, the first time it has been below 4.00 since June 21.
He has allowed two runs or fewer in nine of his last 12 starts and is 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA in September.
“I’ve said with him, ‘chopping wood,’” the Yankees manager said. Aaron Boone He said after the game. “He had that stretch of four or five games where it was a struggle in the middle of the season after such a strong start, but he kept going, kept his eyes peeled, kept working and as a result managed to put together a solid, consistent season for us.”
Saturday’s win raised the Yankees’ magic number to three to clinch the AL East. How Boone and the Yankees will shape the rotation remains to be seen, but there’s a strong chance Rodon takes the No. 2 spot behind Gerrit Cole in a short series.
With one start remaining in the regular season, Rodon remains focused on finishing strong and continuing to build his confidence.
“I’m looking forward to the next outing so I can go out and compete and be prepared,” he said.
