Reports show that foldable smartphones are becoming increasingly popular with customers and more OEMs are entering the segment. While Chinese smartphone companies such as Oppo, Vivo and Techno also enter the foldable segment with new offers, the domain is led by Samsung for some time now.
Oppo and Vivo recently launched their clamshell foldable smartphones to take on Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip devices. The Oppo Find N2 Flip is available in India, while the Vivo X Flip is currently a China exclusive. If we are to believe the reports, Xiaomi is now ready to jump into battle.
Xiaomi is working on its very first foldable clamshell phone
Rumors suggest that Xiaomi is planning to enter the foldable smartphone market. According to a post shared by tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo (spotted by PhoneArena), Xiaomi is also developing its Samsung Galaxy Z Flip series rival.
However, the tipster said nothing about whether the company’s first-ever foldable clamshell will be available in markets outside of China. It’s also important to note that this won’t be the company’s first foldable phone. The report claims that Xiaomi has already started work on its third-generation book-style foldable phone.
Xiaomi’s very first foldable clamshell phone: what to expect
The report notes that Xiaomi’s foldable phone will not be as bulky as its rival Samsung Galaxy Z Spin 4 or Motorola Razr 2022. The rumored device is expected to be “extremely light and thin”.
The tipster also mentioned that the Xiaomi foldable is rumored to be likely to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. Apart from that, the clamshell phone may also support 50W wireless charging and may include a 5X periscope telephoto lens along with multi-angle floating. No other details about Xiaomi’s first foldable phone are currently available.
