X-Files actor Peter Donat dies at 90 due to complications of diabetes

Peter Donat died Monday at the age of 90 at his home in Point Reyes Station, California.

The veteran actor, whose career spans roles on Broadway, television and movies, went from complications of diabetes according to his wife, Maria Donat.

He was best known for his role in six episodes of X-Files TV, where he recurred as William Mulder, the father of agent Fox Mulder.

Donat could be seen in television classics such as Mission: Impossible, The F.B.I., The Waltons, Hawaii Five-O and Murder, She Wrote.

He excelled in live theater, as well as performed with respected companies such as the American Conservatory Theater and the Stratford Festival.

Another notable role was to interpret the doctor who treated J.R. Ewing (Larry Hagman) after he was shot in the famous cliffhanger of the original Dallas series.

Other film credits include The Godfather Part II, The War of the Roses and The Game.

Donat was born Pierre Collingwood Donat on January 20, 1928 in Kentville, Nova Scotia.

He attended the Yale Drama School before obtaining the role of Prince Leopold in The First Gentleman, a British costume drama by Norman Ginsbury.

And he won a World Theater Award for his part.

He is survived by his wife and children Caleb, Christopher and Lucas.
