Wynn Resorts has unveiled its ambitious plans for a $12 billion casino complex at Hudson Yards

Wynn Resorts has unveiled its ambitious plans for a massive $12 billion casino complex at Hudson Yards along Manhattan’s West Side.

New renderings released by the firm show an 80-story tower overlooking the Hudson River with a hotel and gaming facility. The spiky metal casino tower would be surrounded by a 5.6-hectare park as well as other office and apartment buildings.

Pedestrians walking the High Line, an abandoned rail line converted into a park on Manhattan’s West Side, would be able to wander directly past the site and enter the massive resort between West 30th Street and 33rd Streets and 11th and 12th Avenues.

In a rendering of the planned development from the Hudson River, a gleaming office building and residential tower stand to the right of the casino resort tower.

However, approval must come from the state, which decides whether to grant casino licenses in the Big Apple — with another gaming site proposed in Queens.

The Wynn project also includes a 750-seat public school, a community facility and a daycare center within the massive complex.

If the Hudson Yards West project gets the green light, it could bring 35,000 union jobs and 5,000 permanent careers at the resort, developers claim.

The planned hotel could be a convenient stop for visitors attending events at the Javits Center next door, Wynn officials argue.

“As the leading designer, developer and operator of premium gaming resorts in the world, Wynn New York City will attract luxury and aspirational travelers to our destination resort at Hudson Yards,” Wynn Resorts CEO Craig Billings told the New York Post.

“Wynn guests consistently spend more when they travel,” he explained.

Adding: ‘It results in greater tax revenue for the city and state and more spending in the local community, all with less foot traffic than might be required at other resorts.’

“Hudson Yards has already proven to be a unique catalyst for New York’s economy, first through tens of thousands of construction jobs and now as the home of world-leading businesses, retail and housing,” Jeff Blau, CEO of Related Companies told the New York Post.

“Moving forward with the second phase of development presents an incredible opportunity to double the impact and provide generational benefits to the state, the city and especially our neighbors on the West Side,” he explained.

Adding: ‘We look forward to finalizing our vision for the neighborhood in partnership with Wynn Resorts and unveiling full project plans as part of our application to New York State.’

New York State is currently deciding whether to grant up to three casino licenses in New York City, Long Island and the northern suburbs.

“New York needs revenue (and) the licenses are sitting on a shelf, gathering dust and doing nothing for our people,” said Sen. Joseph Addabbo, who chairs the state’s Racing, Gaming and Betting Committee. the gothamist.

Any given casino must pay a license fee of at least $500 million.

One such bidder for the spot in Queens is Steve Cohen, the owner of the New York Mets.

Cohen’s plans include an $8 billion gaming center, hotel and venue near Citi Field, which he has dubbed ‘Metropolitan Park.’

However, not everyone in Albany agrees with New York City. Late. Liz Krueger told Gothamist that the risk of a casino outweighs any potential reward.

‘Does Manhattan Island need a casino for some reason?’ she said. ‘We’re short on land and desperate for affordable housing and open space, but we can go ahead and do those things without tying them to a casino because we have no purpose for a casino.’
