WWE Hall of Famer-in waiting Paul Heyman opens up on his relationship with Roman Reigns… and reveals the pair’s ambitions from the start of their partnership four years ago

Expected WWE Hall of Famer Paul Heyman has opened up about his partnership with Roman Reigns.

Heyman was confirmed as the first member of the 2024 class to be inducted into the WrestleMania season, having starred for the company for over two decades in a management and broadcast role.

In 2020, he aligned himself with Reigns, who was highly rated but looking for direction after a much-needed turn, and helped transform the star into one of the company’s most popular stars.

Reigns has held the WWE Universal Championship since that year, defeating Bray Wyatt to win the title, and unified the belt with the WWE Championship at WrestleMania in 2022 as one of the biggest acts in wrestling.

Speaking through New York PostHeyman outlined the plan for the couple’s relationship and history on screen, revealing that they were aiming high from the beginning.

“When Roman Reigns and I had the opportunity to work together, beginning in August 2020, our purpose was to put together a body of work that, upon reflection, would compete with Peaky Blinders, The Sopranos, The Wire, Fargo, Breaking Bad, “The most compelling dramas with the most fascinating villains anyone has ever seen,” Heyman said.

‘It’s a disruption of what had become the status quo in sports entertainment, and then a constant search for us to disrupt that disruption.

‘I have a significant say in how we are portrayed and presented. That includes everything from camera angles to music and stories. That’s why Roman Reigns bestowed on me the blessed name of Wiseman, which is both a recognition from the Tribal Chief to his Special Advisor.’

Reigns remains incredibly popular with the public despite his villainous on-screen persona, and is central to a rivalry with his real-life cousin, The Rock.

He is set to partner the Hollywood star, whose real name is Dwayne Johnson, against Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins on the first night of WrestleMania in April before defending his title against Rhodes on the second night, with Heyman by his side.

“He’s been a promoter, a manager, an executive, a ‘Wiseman’ and now a Hall of Famer,” WWE boss Triple H posted on X, formerly Twitter, on Heyman.

“There’s more to say about Paul Heyman, but as always, it’s best to let him say it himself…with a live microphone in Philadelphia.”
