The 32-year-old woman allegedly overturned the Nissan X-trail she was driving near Atherton on the Kennedy Highway in Far North Queensland on June 26.

Police will allege she “deliberately drove off the road and into a sign” in the early hours of the morning, with a 43-year-old man and four children aged between three months and nine years old in the car.

They will also claim that at that time there was a child in the trunk who was not properly restrained.

According to police, the group left the scene without serious injuries.

The 32-year-old woman allegedly overturned the Nissan X-trail she was driving near Atherton on the Kennedy Highway in Far North Queensland on June 26.

Queensland Police said they became aware of the abandoned car several hours after someone spotted it on the side of the road in daylight.

Emergency services were called to a property in Evelyn the following day and minor injuries were reported to the baby and a two-year-old girl.

Police will allege the woman assaulted the two children, who were taken to Cairns Hospital.

The woman was charged with five counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault and one count each of driving without a license and driving with a passenger without a seat belt.

The woman was expected to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Police suggest both incidents were related to domestic violence and are urging anyone with information that could help investigators to come forward.
