Catherine Tyldesley’s latest musical, a stage interpretation of Bonnie & Clyde, has left ticket holders outraged after she suddenly announced its closure “with immediate effect” just hours before her next show.

The former Coronation Street star, 40, was touring the UK while playing lead gangster Blanche Barrow in Bonnie and Clyde.

The production, which was scheduled to tour the UK from April to October, would take to the stage at Southend’s Cliffs Pavilion on Tuesday.

But just four hours before the show, they issued a statement revealing that it had been cancelled, leaving fans “gutted” and “disappointed.”

MailOnline can confirm that the reason for the cancellation was due to “disappointing ticket sales”, which meant the show was “no longer financially viable”.

On X, the production teams wrote: ‘Bonnie & Clyde The Musical will conclude its UK and Ireland tour with immediate effect.

‘We would like to thank the extremely hard-working and infinitely talented cast and company who have entertained thousands of viewers across the country with this production.

“Ticket holders will be contacted at their point of purchase shortly with more information.”

The call to cancel the show devastated fans, who called the decision “shameful.”

Theater fans confessed their anger with X since some tickets were bought as Christmas gifts and many had traveled to the city for tonight’s performance.

One of them wrote: “It’s a shameful decision to do this in the middle of a tour and just hours before a show that people have traveled for.” Just play the rest of the shows, pay your talented cast, and call it a loss. Their producers should not be allowed to direct any shows or tours again.’

‘You used the word ‘conclude’ when you should have used ‘cancel.’ A disgraceful decision just hours before a series of shows in Southend that people have already traveled to. Congratulations to your producers for ruining a great show with a cult audience that will now be lost.’

Devastated, we had tickets to Blackpool! A Christmas present too!’

‘Just got an email about this, really disappointed because we had to see it tomorrow at Cliffs Pavillion. How sad that it was canceled mid-tour!’

‘Wow, surprised. I’m glad I caught it early in Wolverhampton, but I had planned to come back. “It’s hugely underrated.”
