An Australian woman has been left fighting for her life and could lose both eyes following a mysterious accident in Bali.

Seaworld worker Rebecca Ode was rushed to Ngoerah General Hospital for reconstructive brain and eye surgery following the “horrific accident.”

The 36-year-old man, from Newcastle in New South Wales, is in a critical but stable condition in intensive care.

Ms Ode, who was in Nusa Lembongan on an extended break, was found “fading in and out of consciousness” at around 9pm on Monday and “in a very bad condition”.

“Nobody knows what happened to him,” said his brother-in-law Jesse Wilton. news.com.au.

“We have no idea how the injury occurred… there was no alcohol… and the extent of his injuries is quite traumatic.”

Ms Ode suffered a series of horrific injuries, including structural damage to her face that will leave her disfigured for the rest of her life.

“He has a bleed on the brain and a fracture to his cheek and jaw that is almost irreparable,” Wilton said.

“Bec needs the best medical care possible as soon as possible, which means getting her home,” Wilton wrote, adding that her hospital bills have already surpassed $60,000.

Ms Ode’s mother Shari and sister Jordyn “are by her side in Bali and while her recovery process is unknown, we know that Bec will continue to fight her best battle with her strong will and determination,” she said.

Jordyn wrote on Facebook: ‘It’s scary to think that it’s all but confirmed that he has lost vision in one eye.

“The impact completely removed his eye from his head and the damage was so severe that they weren’t sure they could save his eye.”

“Her nose was split in half and the cartilage was destroyed. Her face had to be reconstructed and I am desperate to get her home to get professional help.

“Orthopedic surgeons repaired his collarbone and shoulder, which were also damaged. He now has a metal plate to hold his collarbone together.”

Jordyn said Rebecca came to Bali seeking peace “after two extremely painful years following the passing of our father.

“I am devastated to know that he will soon wake up and face the reality that his world has been turned upside down once again.”

‘It’s been an incredibly difficult time. We’re in a third world country with doctors who speak limited English and expect our interpretations to be correct.

“We are extremely grateful for the efforts of the surgeons who have helped her so far.”

In addition to initial medical expenses, the cost of bringing former Seaworld worker Ms Ode back to Australia is expected to be enormous.

‘Once she is cleared to get on a plane, a flight to Sydney and transfers to Newcastle are expected to cost more than $120,000.

“Once Bec returns home, she’ll likely have to go on a long rehabilitation journey. We estimate it will cost her around $250,000 just to get back to Australia,” Wilton said.

Ms. Ode’s insurance coverage is unknown but is being investigated.

As of Thursday evening, the fundraiser had raised more than $84,000 of its $150,000 goal.

“It will be a step-by-step process, but it will be costly, and if we all come together we can make a big difference,” Wilton said.
