The discount airline sells a 3-in-1 package of pens on board for $5.

Mr Lazickirk claimed the employee admitted she had a pen with her, but was adamant she had the “right” to deny her use of it.

He added that pens were available upon arrival if you did not wish to purchase one.

Lazickirk then tried his luck with a second member of staff at the other end of the plane, who did not hesitate to hand him a pen.

“I told him that the lady in the back (of the plane) refused to give me the pen and he was shocked,” she recalled.

“I’ve taken over 1,000 flights in my life and I’ve never been denied a pen.”

The pen saga did not end there. While chatting with the male assistant, a third employee intervened in the conversation.

Lazickirk claimed he was told it was a legal responsibility that they did not need to give him a pen.

“She told me, ‘It’s her discretion, so if she didn’t want to give you a pen, she didn’t have to,'” he added.

Daily Mail Australia contacted Jetstar, which declined to comment on the matter, but confirmed it does not hand out complimentary pens.

The stunned traveler was told it was Jetstar's legal responsibility to ensure staff did not have to provide him with a pen.
