Anthony Albanese has joked that Barnaby Joyce would not host his party after proposing to his girlfriend Jodie Haydon.

Albanese, 60, got down on one knee on Valentine’s Day and has been fielding media questions about her wedding ever since.

Talking with MelbourneFox FM radio presentersMr Albanese quickly dismissed the idea that embattled national leader Mr Joyce was plotting his money night.

“No mate, I want to stay vertical,” the prime minister said on Friday.

Albanese had previously ruled out inviting Joyce to the wedding, telling KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O on Wednesday that he was the only person off the list so far.

“Barnaby is not invited… that’s very clear,” he said.

The shooting of Joyce came after Daily Mail Australia published images of him lying on a Canberra sidewalk on the night of February 8.

Video showed the shadow cabinet member, 56, on the ground in the inner suburb of Braddon after sitting on a flower pot and falling at 11:56 p.m.

The former deputy prime minister could be heard muttering into the phone while on his back on the ground, including one outburst in which he said: “dead, you f***ing c***.”

Sources told Daily Mail Australia that Joyce was having a phone conversation with his wife Vikki Campion at the time and had mixed alcohol with prescription medication.

The video has raised questions about the former deputy prime minister’s fitness to hold a position on the opposition front.

Albanese also ruled out inviting Joyce to his upcoming wedding.

The day after the video emerged, Joyce arrived late to parliament and Albanese said his colleague was suffering from “clearly difficult circumstances”.

Joyce told Nine’s Today program that she temporarily stopped drinking alcohol during Lent.

“I’ve given up two things during Lent, one is drinking and the other is talking to other people about it,” he said.

Joyce Nationals member Perrin Davey has also been criticized for appearing at a Senate estimates hearing where she was seen slurring her words.

Senator Davey admitted to having had two glasses of red wine before the hearing, but denied being drunk and instead blamed a recent operation for her speech problems.

Independent MP Zali Steggall suggested introducing drug and alcohol testing in parliament after the scandals, but was rejected by both Albanese and opposition leader Peter Dutton.
