It has been almost five years since Ladyman last spoke to Foden. He was just a child then, 18 years old. An enormously talented child.

People within the club had an idea of what they wanted Foden to achieve, but he believed it was possible.

“The challenge for me was always a mountain to climb and even make it to the first team,” Foden says in It’s All Kicking Off! interview.

“In my head I just wanted to make an appearance for this club and be able to say I had achieved it.

“But once I did it I thought, ‘No, I can really play here.’ “I can handle the standard.”

“Now I’m at that stage where I feel like a key player on the team. I feel very comfortable with that.”

Now, Foden is aiming for individual honours.

“I hope to be in the conversation,” he says as two player of the year awards are up for grabs.
