Bukayo Saka has been left out of Arsenal’s squad for Wednesday night’s Premier League clash against Luton.

The 22-year-old appeared to be suffering from an injury when he left the pitch in the 78th minute of the Gunners’ 0-0 draw against Manchester City last weekend.

Mikel Arteta had given an update on the winger during the week, revealing that he was not a major injury problem for the game against the Hatters.

But they have chosen to omit the striker from a much-changed squad, with a starting eleven absent the likes of Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus.

Saka joined the rest of his teammates as they arrived at the Emirates for the match that could see them return to the top of the league.

Arsenal fell two points behind Liverpool after their draw at the Etihad, but could return to the top with a win ahead of the Reds’ game against Sheffield United on Thursday.

Saka’s durability has been a hallmark of his recent prominence as, before Wednesday, he had featured in 107 of the last 108 league games for Arteta’s side, dating back to the 2020/21 campaign.

The intensity of Arsenal’s upcoming schedule will surely have influenced their manager’s decision. The north Londoners face a tough test in Brighton this weekend ahead of the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich.

The visit of Rob Edwards’ team could be the first of nine games in the month of April.
