One mother is outraged when she realizes she spent $10 on “barely half” a bag of Froot Loops, calling the “surreal” situation “highway robbery.”

Renee, from Victoria, said her hands were tied because her children mostly eat Froot Loops for breakfast and reject off-brand cereals.

“I was absolutely shocked when I opened the box,” she told FEMAIL. ‘It’s highway robbery. I know we pay based on weight, but $10 for that amount is ridiculous. Almost dead.’

Renee shared an image of the new bag on Facebook, causing consternation among hundreds of other shoppers.

“$10 for half a bag of Froot Loops – the world has gone crazy,” he said.

She told FEMAIL she had “learned her lesson” about the expensive purchase.

From now on I’ll only buy it when it’s on special offer, because I’ll be lucky if the box lasts me a week with my family of four.’

Many echoed the sentiment.

“I can’t understand how companies get away with charging $10 for cereal,” said one.

“Everything is like this nowadays, it’s ridiculous and a scam,” said another mother. ‘It’s like buying a packet of crisps. Five chips and a bag full of air. $10 is a scam and they take advantage of the everyday lives of Australians in times that are already difficult.’

‘Oh Lord. The bags were usually almost full,” one recalled.

One mom gave me some advice: ‘I buy my cereal when it’s half price. They normally have a six-week cycle, so I have enough to last until the next special.

But others didn’t understand why people refused to switch to unbranded products.

“The Aldi brand tastes the same, plus it’s cheaper and more complete,” said one.

‘Chocopop at Aldi is bigger if you want something else. “It’s almost the actual size of the box,” another shared.

‘Sold by weight, not volume. The air in the bag prevents them from being crushed and protects them. The same goes for all products like this,” noted one shopper.
