At least 16 injured when driver of stolen 18-wheeler intentionally crashes into Brenham Texas Department of Safety building

At least sixteen people were injured, three of them seriously, after a truck intentionally crashed into a Texas Department of Safety and Security building in Brenham following a police chase.

Texas DPS said the suspect has been detained and there are “no further threats” to the community, while police said the 18-wheeler was stolen.

Police say the crash was deliberate, although the motive is unknown and the suspect has not been publicly identified.

After the accident, three medical helicopters were asked to transport the seriously injured to the hospital.

Footage of the accident showed the front of the 18-wheeler was mangled and covered with debris from the office’s front doors.

Texas DPS officials said the crash occurred at the agency’s office in Brenham, Texas, which is 75 miles west of Houston.

Authorities said there are reports of multiple serious injuries, but did not specify how many people were affected or the extent of the injuries.

They also asked people to avoid the area to clear the way for medical staff.

Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan said authorities were “monitoring a serious situation in Brenham involving a stolen commercial truck that intentionally caused injuries to innocent Texans.”
