NSW Premier Chris Minns has issued a warning to social media giants after graphic images were still circulating online days after the Bondi Junction massacre.
Joel Cauchi, 40, stabbed 18 people, killing five women and a security guard, during a murderous attack at Westfield Bondi Junction on Saturday.
He was shot dead by heroic police inspector Amy Scott.
The center opened its doors for the first time since Thursday’s incident and the prime minister and police commissioner were among the first to pass through.
The prime minister signed a book of condolences in honor of the victim and spoke outside the police station shortly before noon.
He said it is a “major concern” that rumors and graphic content circulated online after the stabbing and took days for content moderators to remove.
“Having so many unsubstantiated rumors, as well as graphic content, still available on public websites and social media platforms,” ​​Mr Minns said.
“It is very difficult to foster community cohesion and harmony to calm the community and send messages of unity in a difficult period when social media companies are still spreading terrible information.”
