Many Brits love getting a bargain at Aldi, but for some, the panic at the checkout is enough to put them off shopping at the budget supermarket.
tiktoker @ciaranelliottwalm took to her account in a now-viral video to show her fans her ‘life hack’ for shopping at Aldi, helping shoppers beat the supermarket’s notoriously fast checkouts.
In the six seconds of duration shortenwhich has since racked up over 630,000, Ciaran is stocking his grocery store in a unique way.
He urges buyers: ‘spread out all your purchases, so you have time to put it in the bag so they don’t throw it at you.’
However, while some welcomed his advice, Ciaran’s video managed to spark a debate, with many vOnlookers were concerned that staff would be fired for slow speeds.

Ciaran’s ‘life hack’ showed shoppers how to avoid the queue by simply separating items with large spaces between them.
Ciaran’s hack was viewed more than 630,000 times.
Simply titled “Life hack”, Ciaran zoomed in on the supermarket conveyor belt and showed viewers his grocery store, which included toilet paper, juice and bleach, spaced much further apart than usual.
By leaving more space between items, Liverpool intended to have more time to pack, but this would lead to a longer queue.
While some appreciated Ciaran’s tip, others felt his shopping habit was detrimental to Aldi staff, who are encouraged to be quick at the checkouts.
One wrote: “Very good, I’ll use it next time,” and another said: “Aldi until the workers are the worst.”
A more understanding Aldi shopper wanted a calmer shopping experience: “I understand they have goals, but there’s no common sense, when there’s no space and they just start throwing things on the floor.” Why is it so serious?
And one customer even professed his love for his supermarket’s fast checkout pace: “Where’s the fun in that?” I like to pack as fast as they scan. It’s a game’.
But one staff member wrote: “I work at Aldi and if someone does that I just put all their purchases together because otherwise there will be more people waiting at the end of my checkout.”
Another TikTok user who claims to work at Aldi said: “Hahaha people think this works, we’ll just scan faster.”
Not everyone was very impressed with Ciaran’s stunt, which he felt put Aldi staff at a disadvantage.
Another user said: “Everything is fine until the cashier is disciplined because his scanning efficiency is below company standards.”
Another user also worried about Aldi: ‘Please don’t do it. Cashiers get into trouble if they are not fast enough. Don’t risk their jobs for your convenience.”
Another joked: ‘It’s funny because the reason behind the quick scan is to keep prices low… so the fact that you’re trying to slow down the cashiers is embarrassing.”
