Rival fans have taken to social media to mock Liverpool after the Reds’ shock defeat to Atalanta.
Liverpool arguably had one of their worst performances under Jurgen Klopp on Thursday when they lost 3-0 to the Italian team at Anfield in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-finals.
It was a result that few saw coming. Fans had all but booked a thrilling final between Klopp’s side and Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen in Dublin next month, although that now seems mere fantasy.
The hosts were lukewarm and timid, Anfield silent as they watched their title chasers fail to meet expectations in a competition they almost should have bowed out of.
Manchester United fans in particular have delighted in the struggles of their rivals. Liverpool drew 2-2 with the Red Devils last week as their title challenge hit a roadblock, and rival fans have enjoyed mocking the Reds.

A United fan has claimed Kobbie Mainoo helped spark a disastrous week for the Merseyside side.
“The boy behind Liverpool’s downfall, show my star boy some respect,” posted one fan on X, formerly Twitter, accompanied by two photographs of teenage sensation Kobbie Mainoo.
‘Manchester United have defeated Liverpool. You love seeing it,” added another.
A third United fan posted: ‘Klopp leaves Liverpool without beating Ten Hag even once,’ accompanied by a series of laughing emojis and Klopp’s face edited onto a baby held by Ten Hag.
More supporters pointed out that the clash was Klopp’s last as manager after eight years in charge, and apparently was not going entirely to plan.
Having won the Carabao Cup with an injury-hit team in sensational fashion earlier this year, there were hopes of winning the quadruple for Liverpool with the FA Cup, Europa League and Premier League still to be played.
However, a frustrating FA Cup exit against United followed with a week to forget, stripping Klopp’s team of the favorites titles in the other two competitions.
“I hope Klopp’s farewell tour isn’t just with the carabao cup for Liverpool Football Club before he says goodbye,” one fan posted on X, accompanied by a video of a Klopp lookalike struggling on the ground in frustration .
Another wrote: ‘Good morning Liverpool fans. How is Klopp’s quadruple season going? This is where your tears will run out. Don’t say we didn’t warn you,” he shared about Liverpool’s complicated schedule.
Some fans have pointed out that the current clash is the end of Jurgen Klopp’s time with Liverpool.
Klopp was left frustrated and his team now faces a mammoth task to turn the tie around.
The Reds face an uphill task to turn around the tie next week in Italy, but will lean on them to do so having pulled off some memorable comebacks in Europe during Klopp’s reign.
In the Premier League, they are second in the table, behind Arsenal on goal difference with seven games left to play.
This weekend they will face Crystal Palace at Anfield, hoping to regain top spot, with reigning champions Manchester City the favorites to lift the title.
