Brittany Higgins has shared a gushing Valentine’s Day tribute to her future husband, David Sharaz, on the most romantic day of the year.

The former political aide, 29, and her former journalist fiancé, 30, moved into a five-bedroom chateau in the small French town of Lunas, west of Montpellier, with their cavoodle Kingston and cat Clover shortly before Christmas last year.

On Wednesday, Ms Higgins shared a loving photo of her and Mr Sharaz kissing in a passionate embrace in the winter sun on her Instagram stories.

‘My Valentine. Now and always,” said the intimate photo.

It’s the latest on the couple’s new life in France, where they are seeking a “new beginning” after a grueling few years in the political spotlight.

In mid-January, Ms. Higgins shared a series of photos from her first month in France with a quote from French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre that translates as “we are our choices.”

The couple traveled to Paris at some point where they visited the Arc de Triomphe, art galleries and museums.

They also prepared a roast dinner accompanied by bubbles for their first Christmas abroad, with Sharaz posing proudly at the head of a long table.

Sharaz proposed on New Year’s Eve 2022 atop Cape Byron Lighthouse in Byron Bay.

Higgins, a former Liberal Party staffer, received around $2.4 million from taxpayers in 2022 based on claims her political career was left in ruins after she alleged she was raped by former Liberal Party colleague, Mr. Lehrmann, in Parliament in 2019.

Mr. Lehrmann has always vigorously denied the allegations.

The couple’s quiet life in Lunas is a far cry from the current political tumult they left behind in Australia.

After four years, two explosive interviews, a failed trial, a massive compensation payout, ongoing defamation lawsuits, a torrent of leaks and several court races later, the case continues to dominate the political agenda.

More recently, Lisa Wilkinson, who first interviewed Ms Higgins about her allegations in February 2021, won her battle against Network Ten over who should pay her legal costs in the defamation lawsuit brought by Bruce Lehrmann.

Judge Michael Lee intends to rule on the defamation case in March or April.
