BBC Masterchef viewers were left shocked after contestant Jerome reached the quarter-finals of the competition despite a disastrous dessert.

Hoping to land a spot in the next stage of the competition, Jerome, 33, served judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace a risky pudding.

To the viewer’s horror, Jerome’s sweet offering was covered in malt vinegar and the cake was topped with pickled cherries.

His bold decision didn’t bear the fruit he expected and left the judges disgusted by the dish.

But despite the mistake, Jerome managed to advance to the next round of the competition.

This decision sparked outrage online, as viewers believed that fellow competitor, Rana, had been “robbed” of her place in the quarter-finals.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, one user wrote: “Rana was robbed.”

‘So, you cook a dish that everyone says doesn’t work, and then you put vinegar in the dessert and you still can’t handle it? The decision to put Jerome through is shocking.

‘My other half just shouted FO at #MasterChef: yes Jerome, we’re all in shock. Rana was robbed.

“We’ve had a salt AND vinegar disaster.”

‘I think Jerome is a worthy quarter-finalist!’

‘Ehhhhhhh? So the guy who made the malt vinegar dessert stopped by.

“So a dessert that makes everyone choke to get to the quarterfinals?”

After his shocking exit, Rana said: “I went and did my best and enjoyed it and that’s all that matters.” I feel devastated, but I can go home and see my little ones.’
